VAGUEIRA BEACH SERIES

I paint seascapes and atmospheric landscapes that capture the power, beauty and spirit of the natural world. I am inspired by the landscapes of Portugal, particularly those of Praia da Vagueira, and I aim to create art that invites people to slow down and reflect on the profound mystery in which we live. I also hope to engage viewers' memories of their own special place, where they feel connected to life and a sense of belonging.

My creative process begins by returning to Vagos/Vagueira and immersing myself in the atmosphere and rhythm of life there; both by participating in it and by observing our very immediate relationship with the elements: the sky, the sea and the land. Then I photograph those moments and print them out. I sit with the image, remembering the emotions and inspirations I experienced there. As these flood me, I paint, highlighting areas, adjusting the palette, emphasizing colors...influencing the composition and the mood...thus expressing the essence of the beach. These paintings are made with acrylic paints on watercolor paper. My painting process is meditative. I flood the artwork with energy and sensations, reflecting on my memories and emotional connections as I work. My aim is to stimulate a dialog around the interaction between memory, the photographic image and painting.
